I have the original CD and it's not just I love it - my wife, who had never listened to jazz before marrying me loves it too. There is only one problem - the disk was made in 1984 and records issued on CD before 1990-91 are usually bad. So I was happy to find that the same material exists on SACD.This is absolutely unbelievable, but we could not find any difference between the regular CD and SACD versions, even when listened to them simultaneously, switching back and forth between two corresponding players. No improvement at all, not even in bass or dynamic range! Same squeaking sound of violins, dull piano and harsh high frequencies. A typical low quality CD recording and nothing else.How come Columbia did not even try to remaster this record and just used some cheap conversion process on the PCM version? Even the jewel box insert is totally the same as for CD and says "CD Digital Audio". Only the back side has an SACD logo, but would it improve the sound?And two years later they issued an "improved" version,which you can buy just for 50 bucks. Yes, the price was improved, for sure.
