Review J4 are sure to make the hearts of modern rock, radio listening enthusiasts quicken. -- Listen.com, 2003 About the Artist Just in time to save the world from the mediocrity of boy bands and boy toys, the next iteration of rock and roll has arrived. Greg Lake - vocals, and Tommy Iapicco - drums, started J4 back in Canada. The 2 met while in high school, and just started playing together with other friends around their home town, which is located about 60 miles south of Toronto, Ontario. A little place called "St. Catharines" The current lineup of J4 has been together for about three years. In that time they have released a full-length CD ("A Dozen Dead Flowers"), a five-song EP ("Deeper Shade of Blue"), and played every club worth playing (and a couple not worth playing). Yeah, theyve played all those big clubs in Los Angeles that all those bands on the East Coast dream of playing like the Viper Room, the Whisky, Troubadour and every other club in Los Angeles. A big moment recently came for J4 when they hooked up with their current manager, Brian Lowe, who also works with many major recording artists.("Macy Gray", "Perfect Circle"," 311" etc..) As stated earlier, two of J4s members hail from Canada, while the other three are from the Southern California area. Before Greg Lake, and Tommy Iapicco came out to California, they went to Chicago to record, "Soul Searchin"-under "Cellar Records". Then the guys relocated to Nashville, TN, where they recorded "Swamped"- under Hipp Records/Island Bound music. They also did an MTV music video for the single "Feel the Same" off the "Swamped" album. They lived in Nashville for about 3 1/2 years. When they arrived in Nashville, they lived in their van at first, in a campground. It was quite a scene, and pretty funny we hear. (not for the entire 3 1/2 years though. That would have sucked). The 2 members then relocated to LA. (This time they did NOT live in a van. This time it was Greg's cousins floor) Once in LA, Lake and Iapicco put an ad in the paper, hoping to find like-minded, committed musicians. Guitarist Michael Ellis, who had just moved to LA from Las Vegas, answered the ad. They then held auditions for a second guitarist, which yielded the talented Andy Curtin, whose funky, jazzy style balanced out Ellis harder, more punk-influenced sound. After a frustrating series of auditions with bassists who just weren't clicking with the band, Ellis asked longtime friend and bassist Josh Jones if he would like to join. Jones did, and the new lineup of J4 was complete. With the band feeling reborn and revitalized, they were quickly inspired to start writing new songs, rework the best of their older songs, and jettison the rest. See more
